How do I add age verification in my Online Shop?
If your shop is located in Denmark, you are legally obliged to verify your customers' age if you sell age-restricted products. These products include tobacco, alcohol, e-cigarettes and other nicotine products.
You can easily activate age verification in the Online Shop settings and verify your customers via MitID. This means they must go through a MitID verification at the checkout before purchasing.
Activate age verification
- Go to your Online Shop dashboard.
- Find Settings in the left-side menu and select General.
- Scroll down to Products with age restrictions.
- Tick the box that says I sell products that require age verification.
- Click Save.
Verification at the Online Shop checkout
When the function is activated, a sign will appear in the cart overview if it contains items with age restrictions. The same sign will also appear at the checkout.
To initiate the MitID verification, shop visitors must click the blue MitID button. If the verification is successful, they will see a success message when redirected to the Online Shop checkout, where they can complete the purchase.
If a shop customer tries to complete the purchase without verification, they will get a notification saying that they cannot do this.
