How do I add a Consent banner to my Website Builder site?

If your site uses cookies, you must inform visitors and ask for their consent. You can do this via a consent banner, which you can easily activate in the Website Builder dashboard's settings.

This guide explains how to enable a general consent banner in Website Builder. If you have a Termly subscription, please follow this guide instead: How do I add the Termly consent banner to my Website Builder site?

Step 3 - Choose a language and auto-blocker settings for your banner

  1. Select the language in which your Consent banner should be displayed.
  2. Decide if you want to use auto-blocker with your banner. This feature automatically blocks third-party content from being displayed to your website visitors until they allow it. You can read more about Auto Blocker in our partner Termly's guide.

Note: English will always be the fallback language regardless of which language you choose for your banner. This means that if you have set the language to Dutch and someone enters your site with a different language in their browser settings, they will see the banner in English rather than Dutch.

Step 4 - Click Save

Once you have chosen a language and your auto-blocker settings, click Save.

It can take up to 24 hours from activation of the banner for your site to be scanned and the results to show up in your Consent banner.

Step 5 - Publish the banner on your site

You can only see the banner in the live version of your website.

  1. Click the Publish button in the Website Builder dashboard to publish your banner.

When you visit your website, the banner will appear in a pop-up window. Visitors to your website can choose which cookies they accept or decline all.

Note: Termly, our partner, determines automatically to which category a cookie belongs, so you don't need to worry about compliance or whether a cookie is necessary for your site to run.

Customisation settings

You can customise the appearance of the Consent banner to match your website's design. The preview, available under the activation toggle, will update based on your selections.

Note: If you have a Website Builder Basic, Starter, or Mini plan, you need to upgrade to access the customisation settings.

  1. Under Display style, you can choose between Stretch, Banner, Modal and Tooltip.
  2. Select the Position of your Consent banner.
  3. For the Size, you can choose between Default and Compact.
  4. Select a Style for the Consent banner that aligns with your website's design. Select Font, Font size, and the colours for the Banner background, Banner text, Button background and Button text.
