How do I update my POP mail server settings?

In this guide, we explain how you update the mail server settings for your POP account in your email client. An email client is an application that you use to send and receive mail, for example, Outlook or Apple Mail.

Step 1 - Check your password
Step 2 - Confirm that you are using POP
Step 3 - Backup your email
Step 4 - Change your settings
Step 5 - Verify you can send and receive email
Tip: We've listed instructions for the most common email clients. If your client is missing, try searching on Google for help pages for the client you are using. Do you need help from our support? Please find out what email client you are using first, and then contact us. That way we can help you best.

Step 1 - Check your password

Sometimes you need to enter your password when changing your settings. That's why it's a good idea to make sure that you have the right one. The easiest way to check this is by logging in to Webmail. If your login is successful, this means you have the correct password.

If you can't log in, you can change the password in the one.com control panel. Check this guide for step-by-step instructions: How do I change my email password?

Step 2 - Confirm that you are using POP

Next, you need to verify that you are using the POP protocol to receive mail, and not IMAP or Exchange. You do this in your email client.

  • Outlook: Click File and check the settings under Account Information at the top of your screen.
  • Thunderbird: Click the menu in the top-right corner and select Options > Account settings.
  • Apple Mail: Click Mail > Accounts, and check your account type in the menu to the left.
  • iPhone/iPad Mail: Go to Settings > Passwords & accounts. Tap your account and check the information at the top. If it's a POP account it will say Pop account information.
Note: If you are using IMAP instead of POP, please contact our support or continue with this guide: How do I set up a mail account in for example Outlook?

Step 3 - Backup your email

We recommend making a backup of your email before you make any changes. Generally, this isn't possible to do on a mobile device, but check the links below for desktop clients.

Tip: If all your emails are available in Webmail, you can use our Backup & Restore feature. The backup function is included with all plans, while the restore option is included with Enthusiast and higher. Check this guide for instructions: Getting started with Backup and Restore.
