Redeploy your Cloud Server to reinstall from scratch

Redeploying your Cloud Server reinstalls it from scratch, letting you switch to a different Linux distribution or do a clean reinstall of your current one. You can do this yourself from oneHome, without needing to contact support.

Redeploying erases all data on your server
This action replaces everything on your Cloud Server with a fresh install. All data, software, and configuration are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Take a backup or snapshot first if you need to keep anything.

Your server's public IP address(es) stay the same throughout, so nothing needs to be reconfigured on there.

  • Why redeploy your Cloud Server

Redeploy is the one action that lets you both change your operating system and get a completely clean, fresh install of your current one, without ordering a new server.

    Typical reasons to redeploy:

    • Switching from the default Ubuntu install to a different supported distribution, such as Debian, AlmaLinux, CentOS, openSUSE, or FreeBSD.
    • Recovering from a severely misconfigured or broken server with a clean reinstall.
    • Starting a new project on an existing VPS instead of ordering a new one.
    • Testing how your application behaves on a different distribution or version before committing to it.
  • Supported operating systems

You can redeploy your Cloud Server with any of our supported Linux distributions. Ubuntu 26.04 is pre-installed by default when you order.

If you're on our dedicated Windows VPS plan, you can also use redeploy to switch between Windows Server editions and versions.

For the full list of distributions and versions, see What operating systems are supported by a Cloud Server?.

  • How to redeploy your Cloud Server

    1. Go to your VPS page in the one.com Control Panel.
    2. Click on the name of the Cloud Server to open the oneHome Cloud Server overview page.
    3. Select the Redeploy server shortcut.
    4. Under Select operating system, select the distribution and version you want, then select Next.
    5. Set a Display name and Hostname if required, then set a password for the default Linux user or add your public SSH key. Select Redeploy server to confirm.
    6. Your server restarts and is temporarily unavailable while the reinstall completes. This can take up to 10 minutes, depending on the operating system.
Tip: If it takes noticeably longer, check the server status in oneHome before you continue with troubleshooting.
    7. Reconnect to your server via SSH using your new credentials.

You may see an SSH host key warning the first time you reconnect, since redeploying generates new host keys for your server. This is expected. See: How to fix an SSH host key error after redeploying your Cloud Server.

Troubleshooting

  • I can't connect via SSH after redeploy

Your login credentials are updated during redeployment, so use the new password or SSH key you set during the process. You may also see a host key warning. See: How to fix an SSH host key error after redeploying your Cloud Server.

  • I redeployed but I still see my old files

This shouldn't happen, since redeploy wipes the entire server. If you still see old data after a redeploy, please contact our support immediately.

  • What network settings do I need to reconfigure after a redeploy?

Your firewall rules stay in place. If your server was connected to a private network, it stays connected, but you'll need to configure the network interface again.
