In this article, we’ll show you how to connect to an SFTP server, a secure and encrypted way to transfer files, using Cyberduck.
Please ensure you have downloaded Cyberduck and have the program open before proceeding.
Note: Before you can login with SFTP, make sure that SFTP or SSH access is activated in your one.com Control Panel.
How to connect
- Click Open Connection, in the top left, to open the connection manager.
- Select SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) in the dropdown menu to connect via the secured SFTP.
- Server: In the Server field, enter the server address: ssh.yourdomain.com, replacing yourdomain.com with your own domain name. Use lowercase only, and leave out www. in front of the domain name.
- Port: Enter 22 for SFTP.
- Username: Your username is your domain name (e.g. yourdomain.com) without www.
-
Password: Enter the password set for SFTP/SSH via your Control Panel.
Forgot your password?
No worries! Just follow the steps in our guide Create or change your SFTP password. - Make sure Anonymous Login is not selected.
- Click the Connect button to initiate the connection.
- When prompted with an unknown fingerprint notification, click Allow to trust the connection with your host. This is a security feature to confirm the identity of the server you are connecting to.
If the connection is successful, your files and folders will appear as a list, in alphabetical order. You can begin securely transferring files between your local computer and the server.
Troubleshooting connection issues
If the connection fails, a prompt will provide more details. We recommend double-checking:
- The entered server address
- The username and password
- Ensure SFTP/SSH access is activated in your Control Panel
- No firewall or security software is blocking the connection
