If you have a domain registered with another provider and want to transfer it to us, this guide will show you how to do it.
- Step 1 - Prepare your domain for transfer
- Step 2 - Place an order on one.com
- Step 3 - Approve the Domain Registration Agreement
- Step 4 - Confirm the transfer
Step 1 - Prepare your domain for transfer
Before starting the domain transfer process, ensure that you update the contact details with your current provider. Throughout the transfer, you will receive one or more emails at the email address registered for the domain. Keeping your contact information up-to-date will help prevent any issues.
Some domains can have a domain lock or status that prevents the transfer. Make sure that:
- The contact details on the domain are up-to-date.
- The domain is free to transfer (unlocked).
Tip: Before you transfer your domain, make a backup of all the content you want to keep, like your website, database and emails. Only the domain name is transferred; no files or emails will be transferred to your web space.
Step 2 - Place an order on one.com
The next step is to order your domain on one.com and activate it.
Your domain will be shown as "not available" during the ordering process since you already registered it somewhere else. Click Transfer and then continue with the ordering process.
Step 3 - Approve the Domain Registration Agreement
For some of the most common domains, called Generic top-level domains, an email with a link to approve the Domain Registration Agreement will be sent to the email address registered on the domain.
The agreement is required by ICANN. It outlines our obligations to you and yours to us regarding your domain.
Step 4 - Confirm the transfer
In our order confirmation email, you'll get instructions on how to complete the transfer of your specific domain. For most domains, you confirm the transfer by entering a transfer code sent to you by your current domain provider.
It may take several days for the domain to be transferred to one.com. The duration depends on the type of domain.
Tip: Ask your current registrar to change the domain's name servers to ours. Then you can start with your website right away. Our name servers are: ns01.one.com and ns02.one.com.
