How do I set up a redirect to another page in Website Builder?

If you want to set up a redirect for a page on your Website Builder site to another page on the same site, you can easily do this via your Website Builder editor. Just open the redirect overview, type in the "old" URL address and the "new" one and save the redirect. Continue reading this article for step-by-step instructions.

Note: The method covered in this guide is for redirecting pages internally on the same Website Builder site. If you want to redirect a page to an external location, please use the method covered in this guide instead: How can I redirect a visitor to another page via the .htaccess file?

We recommend using DNS instead if you want to redirect your entire website. Our article on managing your DNS settings explains this more fully.

Step 1 - Access the redirects page

Note: In the redirect setup, you'll need to add the exact URL of the page you want to redirect away from. Because of this, we recommend that you write down the page's URL before deleting it in your Website Builder editor, as there is no way to retrieve the URL on your webspace once you've deleted the page. If you've already deleted the page, you might be able to recover the URL by searching for it via, for example, Google Search.

  1. Go to your Website Builder editor and navigate to the menu with the two lines in the upper-right corner.
  2. Click Settings in the menu that appears.
  3. A new window will open. Go to the menu on the left and select Redirects.

Step 2 - Add the redirect

  1. You'll now see an empty overview page of your redirects. Click the blue Add redirect button to add a new one.
  2. Several fields will now appear in the overview; fill in these fields to create the redirect. In the field Redirect from, enter the URL of the page you want to redirect visitors away from. You should only enter the URL's slug, which is the last part after the "/." For example, if you want to redirect a page called "www.one-example.com/about-us", you should only enter "/about-us".
  3. Under Redirect to, you must select the page visitors should be redirected to. If you click the arrow in the field, a drop-down menu listing your current Website Builder pages will appear.
  4. Under Type, you must select the type of redirect it should be. You can choose between 301 (permanent redirect) and 302 (temporary redirect).
  5. Click the blue Save button to add your redirect. If you want to edit or delete a redirect later, you can do this via the pencil or the bin icons next to the redirect.
  6. Click Done at the bottom of the window to exit the redirect overview.

Note: The old URL cannot contain the following characters: " (double quote), <> (angle brackets), \ (backslash), | (pipe), ^ (caret), { } (curly brackets), "  " (space), \n (new line), \t (tab), \r (return), ? (query separator), # (fragment identifier), / (used as a separator but not inside path segments).

Step 3 - Publish your site to make the change(s) live

Remember to publish your site to make the changes live.

Although the redirect will be effective immediately on your website when you publish, it might be a while before the search results for your site on Google are updated. This is perfectly normal. However, you can ask Google to update faster by requesting a recrawl. You can read more about how to do this in our guide on asking Google to update your website in search results.

Note: Once created, your redirects will only be visible via the overview in the Website Builder editor. You will not be able to see them in the DNS overview in your Control Panel.
