If you want to give your customers a discount or attract visitors with a special promotion, you can do this with a discount code. You can create the code from the Online Shop dashboard.
Customers with such a code can enter it during checkout for free shipping or a discount on their purchases.
- Step 1 - Find Discounts
- Step 2 - Click Add discount
- Step 3 - Create your discount
- Step 4 - Review your discount
- Step 5 - Done!
Step 1 - Find Discounts
- Go to the Online Shop dashboard and find Marketing in the left-side menu.
- Select Discounts.
Step 2 - Click Add discount
You will now see an overview of all discount codes created. Click on the Add discount button to create a new one.
Tip: You can also edit an existing discount code, for example, if you want to reactivate it. To permanently delete a code, tick the box to select it and click Actions --> Delete in the top-right corner.
Step 3 - Create your discount
You need to specify the following settings:
Discount information:
- Discount type - Select if you want to create a discount code or an automatic discount. A discount code is a code that your customers can manually enter at checkout to redeem a discount. An automatic discount (for example, "20% off all trousers") will automatically be applied to an order at checkout. You can have one automatic discount related to the order, one for shipping and one per specific category or combination of categories.
- Discount name - This is the name of your discount. If it's a code, it's also the code that your customers need to enter to redeem it. Spaces are not allowed.
- Discount value - Choose whether the code should offer a percentage discount or free shipping. If you have selected a percentage discount, you need to specify the amount of discount the code should give.
- Apply to - Choose if the discount applies to the entire order, specific products, or categories.
- Active dates - Here, you can set the date from when the code is valid. If you don't set an end date, it is valid indefinitely or until the usage limit has been reached.
- Minimum purchase - You can select a minimum amount or a minimum number of items the customer needs to spend to use the discount code.
- Limitations - You can limit the number of times the discount code can be used. This is not restricted to a customer, meaning one can use the code several times.
Note: It is possible to combine two or more discounts (manual and automatic) so your customers can get extra discounts at checkout. This could, for example, be a 10% order discount combined with free shipping. However, please note that a few limitations apply in these cases:
- When multiple discounts apply to the same line item (e.g. 10% shirt discount + 20% shirt discount) only the best discount will be applied. They will not be combined.
- Multiple shipping discounts can't be applied to the same order.
Step 4 - Review your discount
Once you've entered the details for your code, you'll see a summary of the discount on the right side of your screen. Check to make sure everything is as you want it.
Click Save at the bottom of the page when you're done.
Step 5 - Done!
Automatic discounts will now be applied and customers will be able to use any discount codes in your Online Shop. Note that automatic discounts will only be visible once your customers reach the checkout; they will not be able to see them in the cart.
Discount codes should also be applied at checkout. When you go to the checkout, you have an option to enter the code. If the code is valid, it will be visible right away in the payment overview.
