How do I update a CMS like WordPress and Joomla?

To keep your website secure, it's essential that you always update your CMS to the latest version, including your plugins, extensions, themes and other additions. In this guide, we show you how to update WordPress and Joomla.

Is your website suspended?
You can temporarily reopen your site from the one.com Control Panel to access the dashboard of your CMS. Your site will only be accessible from the device you are currently using, and after 24 hours the access expires again.


Update WordPress

Tip: If you don't have access to your WP Admin, you can update it manually - read our guide for step-by-step instructions.

  1. Log in to your WP Admin.
  2. Click Updates in the menu to the left. A red dot with a number indicates the number of available updates.
  3. Update WordPress core, all plugins and all themes, until the red dot is no longer visible.
  4. That's all!

Update Joomla

  1. Log into your Joomla control panel.
  2. Look in the menu to the left under Maintenance: if any updates are available, there is a red icon with a number.
  3. Install all available updates for the core installation of Joomla and any extensions and templates.

Update other CMS's

If you are using another CMS, you can most likely update it in the Updates section of its dashboard, in a similar way to Joomla and WordPres. Check the links below for information about other common CMS's.
