Can I use DKIM for my one.com email accounts?

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) helps verify that emails sent from your domain are legitimate, improving security and preventing messages from being marked as spam. If you use one.com for email hosting, DKIM is enabled automatically when your domain uses our name servers. This guide explains what it is and how it works, also, when your domain uses external name servers.

What is DKIM?

DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication method that adds a digital, encrypted signature to every email you send. This signature is invisible to the sender and recipient but helps mail servers verify that:

  • The email really comes from your domain
  • The message hasn't been altered during delivery

This improves email security, reduces the chance of your messages being marked as spam, and protects your domain from spoofing attempts.

Do I need to set up DKIM for my one.com email accounts?

No, not if you use one.com name servers.

When your domain uses one.com's name servers and mail servers, DKIM is automatically activated. You don't need to configure anything.

All emails you send already include a DKIM signature, and all emails you receive are checked for the digital DKIM signature.

Why is DKIM important?

DKIM helps protect your email in two ways:

  • When sending email
DKIM adds an invisible signature that the receiver's email provider can use to validate your email. Helping prevent your email from being flagged as spam. It also means that you can protect your domain against malicious emails that claim to be sent on your behalf.

  • When receiving email
Our mail servers check whether incoming emails have a valid DKIM signature. Emails without one are often classified as spam, helping protect you from phishing and spoofing.

Setting up DKIM if you're not using one.com's name servers?

If your domain does not use one.com name servers, but your email is hosted at one.com, you can still add DKIM to your domain.

The number of DNS records you need depends on your domain, our support can help you determine what applies to your domain:

  • For non-migrated domains, DKIM requires 4 CNAME records.
  • For migrated domains, DKIM required 2 CNAME records.

To enable DKIM

Go to your DNS settings at the other host, and add the number of new CNAME records using the values you need for your domain, provided by our support. We're happy to help you!

It usually takes up to 240 minutes for this DNS change to propagate across the internet; it will not work immediately.
