The one.com Website Builder is a user-friendly tool that can be used by anyone, but there are a few basic things about its layout that are good to know before you start working on your site. Once you know how the layout works, you’ll be able to get a better idea of how to structure and build your site. You'll be less likely to make design errors and can enjoy a faster, easier and more exciting building process.
In this article, you’ll find a short introduction to header, footer, and sections, and how these items work together to make up a website made in the one.com Website Builder.
Header and footer
In the Website Builder, pages are made from sections that are placed vertically on top of each other. The header and the footer are the sections at the top of the page (header) and at the bottom (footer), respectively. In between these is the body, which consists of individual sections for each page.
The header, the footer and one section in between these two are fixed items of any page on your site. Even if you remove all the content from your chosen template, these three elements must remain on the page.
The important thing to know about the header and the footer is that components placed in these two sections will appear on all pages on your site. Therefore, they should only contain items – such as the menu or your contact details – that you want to display on all your pages.
Header and footer are fixed elements because they are also semantic tags that allow search engines to better analyze the website. This can lead to a good logical order of the page and good rankings in search engines. It also improves accessibility for everyone. Plus, headers and footers are used to keep the content in place so that everything on the site doesn't get mixed up or overlap across pages.
Sections
A page can consist of as many individual sections as you want, as long as there is at least one between the header and the footer.
You can add multiple sections or have all your components in just one section.
Note that when you place components in multiple sections, you can easily rearrange the order of the content by changing the order of the sections. Simply click on the section and use the arrows on the left to move the section up or down on the page:
You can also add a new section in between existing ones or delete a section. Regardless of whether you do one or the other, the page will automatically adapt to the change. That way, you won’t have to rearrange all the other sections when you want to add or remove something:
If you want a component or an entire section (that is not the header or the footer) to replicate across pages, you will need to copy this item manually to the sections on all the other pages where it should appear.
You can also easily move components between header, footer, and sections on a page by dragging the item to the desired location.
