How to work safer with Webmail

Security is essential when we are online. Webmail has several security features that can help you get peace of mind when communicating with others. This guide will show you how to use them to stay safer.

Enable the spam filter

one.com has a powerful spam filter enabled by default, and we highly suggest keeping it enabled. By having it stay enabled, spam- and phishing emails are more likely to end up in the spam folder, so you don't have to worry about clicking any unsafe links.

If you still want to deactivate the spam filter, you can do so in your one.com Control Panel or in Webmail.

In the one.com Control Panel:

  1. Go to Email & Microsoft 365 in the menu on the left.
  2. Click the three dots on the right side of the email account.
  3. Click Deactivate spam filter.

  3. Click Edit to the right of Spam filter.

Set login alerts

When enabling this feature, an SMS alert is sent whenever someone logs in to your email account from another country. If you didn't log in, you can immediately change your password and block unauthorised access. If travelling frequently, you can add trusted countries that shouldn't trigger an SMS alert.

How to set Login alerts inside your Webmail:

  1. Click the Settings icon in the menu to the left.
  2. Go to Login alerts.
  3. Click the Enable mobile number-slider button.
  4. Type in your number.
  5. Click Save.

Set trusted senders

Make sure to not miss any important emails by adding email addresses from people you know and trust to your trusted sender list. This way, you ensure the emails will always be delivered to your inbox. Emails sent from an email address on your trusted sender list will never end up in your spam folder.

How to set Trusted senders inside your Webmail:

  1. Click the Settings icon in the menu to the left.
  2. Go to Trusted senders.
  3. Type the email address you want to add to the list
  4. Click Add.

Block Senders

We all can relate to receiving unwanted emails, like spam or phishing. The best way to avoid this is to block unwanted senders. This will ensure that spam emails from these senders are automatically moved to the Spam folder.

There are two ways you can block a sender in Webmail.

Option 1:

  1. Click the three vertical dots to the right of the email.
  2. Click Block sender.

The sender will be added to your list of blocked senders.

Use strong passwords

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of having a secure password.

We recommend not reusing passwords but having different passwords on each login. By doing this, your other logins will not be affected if one of your passwords gets leaked.

If we inform you that your password has been exposed to a data leak on another website, please react immediately and update your password in your Webmail settings or your one.com Control Panel.

Note: Unsure of what to do if you receive a phishing email? If you would like more information, please check out the following guide.

Use email groups

To stay organised, use email groups in Webmail to group your contacts, such as colleagues, friends and family, newsletters, etc.

You can add a contact to different groups by clicking the contact in your list and clicking on Add to group on the page's upper right corner. All your groups will be listed here, and you can choose the correct group for this contact. You can add a contact to multiple groups.

You can create email groups inside Webmail:

  1. Click the Contacts icon in the menu to the left.
  2. Click the plus (+) icon on the right side of Add new group.

Note: Contacts must first be added to your list before they can be added to groups.

Check the sender's email address

You can prevent someone from tricking you with false email messages or websites into revealing personal or confidential information. This information can be used illicitly, and phishing scams are prevalent. Fortunately, they are avoidable if you know how to identify and prevent them correctly.

In any email, you have a display name of the sender and an email address, and please note that anyone can fake a display name and send an email saying it is from your bank, for example. Therefore is essential to check if the email address is correct.
