What is Backup & Restore?
With Backup & Restore, you can easily save and restore backups of your web space, databases, email accounts and Website Builder projects. You can access this add-on from the Control Panel.
Backups of your web space, database and email are available up to two weeks back. You can restore a backup, download it to your computer, or save it on your web space in case you need it in the future.
Available backups, backups saved on your web space and backups that you keep under “My backups” count towards your disk usage.
Backups of your Website Builder Projects are saved indefinitely. We keep up to 200 saved versions of your website.
Backups for Basic Mail are stored for the last 14 days.
Mail Exchange backups are stored for one month: our partner, Any.Cloud, securely stores and manages all Exchange Mail backups using encrypted connections and robust security measures, ensuring GDPR compliance and comprehensive data protection within a secure solution hosted on IBM Cloud.
Note: Backup & Restore is included if you have an Enthusiast plan or Website Builder Premium and higher. On the smaller plans, it can be bought as an add-on product. Check our guide about what is included in our plans.
How do I activate it?
You can activate Backup & Restore from the Control Panel. If Restore isn't included in your current subscription plan, you still follow the regular steps for "How to restore a web space, database or email backup". When you select what you would like to do with the backup, you will see a box with information about upgrading.
Follow the steps below to purchase Backup & Restore.
- Click the Restore button to purchase this feature.
- Choose how you want to pay and click Approve. You will be charged for the remaining months of the current subscription period.
- Continue with the regular steps.
How do I restore a web space?
You can restore a backup directly from the available running backups under web space. Or choose one of your previously saved backups from My backups.
- Log into the one.com Control Panel and open Backup & Restore on the Files & Security tile.
- Select the tab Web space.
- Select from which date you want to restore the backup.
- Select Restore web space from this backup and click Ok.
- Click Restore web space to confirm.
- Enter your Control Panel password and click Restore web space.
- The restore has now been initiated. You will be notified via email when it is done.
Note: When you restore a WordPress site, don't forget to also restore the database of the same date.
How do I restore a database?
You can restore a backup directly from the available running backups under Database. Or choose one of your previously saved backups from My backups.
What to do if you have deleted your database
If you have previously deleted your database, you will need to create a new one before restoring from a backup.
Once the new database is active, you can restore your backup to it.
- Go to PHP and database settings in your Control Panel.
- Click the button to add a new database.

- Select the tab Database.
- Select the database you want to restore from the drop-down menu.
- Select from which date you want to restore the backup.
- Select Restore backup to live database and click Ok.
- Click Restore database to confirm.
- Enter your Control Panel password and click Restore database.
- The restore has now been initiated. You will be notified via email when it is done.
Note: When you restore a WordPress site, don't forget to also restore the web space of the same date.
How do I restore an email backup?
You can restore an email backup directly from the available running backups under email. Or choose one of your previously saved backups from My backups.
- Log into the one.com Control Panel and open Backup & Restore on the Files & Security tile.
- Select the tab Email.
- Select the email address you want to restore from the drop-down menu.
- Select from which date you want to restore the backup.
- Select Restore backup to a new mail account and click Ok.
- Enter a new email address and password, and click Save. The address will be created at the same time that the backup is restored.
- The restore has now been initiated. You will be notified via email when it is done.
Tip: If you want to merge your backed up emails to your standard email account, you need to do this in an email client. Set up both accounts with IMAP and then move emails and folders around. The settings you should use in an email client can be found in this guide.
How do I restore a project in Website Builder?
To restore a backup of your Website Builder project, you need to use the built-in backup function in Website Builder. We have created a separate guide for this, check it out below.
Note: Images and videos that you upload yourself, are not part of the backup in Website Builder. These images and videos are by default stored on your web space, in a folder called 'onewebmedia'. We recommend that you make a separate backup of the content on your web space regularly.
