This FAQ answers the most common questions about the Backups affecting your disk space. The changes immediately affect less than 1% of our users.
-
When will the disk quota calculation change?
The changes will take effect four months before the renewal of your hosting subscription. If it looks like you will exceed the disk usage limit, you will get an email five months before your renewal.
-
Why do we change the way we calculate the disk usage?
Previously, this space was not part of our disk space utilisation calculation for the hosting plans. We need this to be more accurate, and with this change, your disk quota will now encompass both your active data and the backup of that data. Less than 1% of our users are immediately affected by these changes.
-
How does the calculation work?
If you use 100 MB of storage for your web hosting plan, the space usage for backups will be 100 MB, too, making it 200 MB in total.
Note: Your email, and your Backup & Restore files, are not counted in the backup disk space.
-
Where can I see my disk usage?
In the one.com Control Panel, you can monitor how much disk space you use in total.
- Log in to your one.com Control Panel
- On the Files & Security tile, click Disk Usage.
The overview shows the total shared disk space and the distribution across your user's domains and web spaces. Disk space can be shared between all your hosting subscriptions.
You also see how much space each domain uses on the web and email. It can be a good idea to look for the biggest number to see what's taking up the most space.
Tip: Your Disk space usage is updated three times a week. If you're in the process of creating space, you might need to return another day to see the updated status.

What happens when I exceed the disk usage limit?
When you exceed your disk usage limit, we will notify you in an email explaining how you can upgrade to a bigger plan.
If you don't upgrade or delete files, your services will eventually be suspended. This means you won't be able to use our services, except for the DNS, in the Control Panel. Your website will become temporarily inaccessible, and your email accounts won't work.
-
What do I do when I exceed the disk usage limit?
If your data exceeds the maximum disk space, you can do one of the following to avoid suspension or to unsuspend your already suspended services:
Upgrade to a bigger hosting plan
When you upgrade to a bigger plan, the changes are instant. If you are suspended, you will automatically be unsuspended. Please check our step-by-step guide if you need help:
