Over the years, we have changed the plan structure of our popular Website Builder tool and introduced a brand-new plan: Website Builder Basic. This also means some customers have been moved to a different Website Builder plan.
In this article, you'll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about these changes.
-
What has changed?
We have introduced a new free plan to our Website Builder product: Basic.
In short, our Website Builder has gone from having three plans (Starter, Premium, and Business + E-commerce) in the current setup to having four plans in the new portfolio.
Our new four-plan setup will look like this, from smallest to largest plan:
-
- Basic
- Starter
- Premium
- Business + E-commerce
Basic is now the new Website Builder plan included in all our hosting plans. Starter has been converted to a paid add-on plan in line with Premium and Business + E-commerce.

Who has been affected by this change?
Anyone with a website on the Website Builder Starter plan has been either moved to the Basic plan or has their Starter plan converted to the "new" Starter add-on. The latter is now available for a small fee.
Premium and Business + E-commerce customers have only been affected because Basic is now the new included Website Builder plan in their hosting plan. Anyone with one of these plans has not been affected while on their current plan. However, if you decide to cancel your add-on and downgrade to the included plan later, you will have to adhere to the website requirements of Basic rather than Starter. You can go ahead and read more about the differences in this FAQ.
-
Which plan have I received?
This depends on whether or not you have a published Website Builder site live on your domain.
If you had a published site made in Website Builder on your domain, your current Starter plan has been converted to the new Starter add-on.
You have been downgraded to Basic if you do not have a published Website Builder site on your domain. This plan is included for free in your hosting plan.
For those with a draft website in their Website Builder editor at the time of the change, we have offered a free upgrade to Starter.
-
What is the difference between Basic and Starter?
The new Basic plan has all the same features as the current Starter plan but with some exceptions. The most important one is that with Basic, you can have a maximum of 1 page and 5 section links on your published site.
Starter has retained all its current features and a maximum of 5 published pages and 5 section links. Additionally, we have added HD image support and more video options to the "new" Starter plan.
In this guide, you can find an overview of which features are included in each plan.

Why has Basic become the plan that's included in your hosting subscriptions?
Recently, there's been a lot of positive talk about one-page websites—and with good reason! These websites hold great potential, especially for people who want to promote their business or establish their online presence quickly.
Not only are one-page websites quick to create and easy to maintain, but they are also more straightforward to navigate and ideal for viewing on mobile devices. In short, they provide an excellent user experience for you and your visitors.
Over the past years, we've introduced several features that make creating a professional-looking one-page site easy. These include one-page templates, section links, scroll effects, AI-driven writing, and predesigned sections that you can customize to create just the website you want. So, having a one-page Website Builder site does not mean you'll have a boring website!
We've also recently implemented a new AI-driven onboarding process, which makes setting up your one-page website even faster.
A one-page site is the perfect solution if you want a beautiful website and have it up and running quickly. Because of this, we now offer Basic as the free Website Builder option for our hosting plans.
If you would like an overview of all our current Website Builder plans, you can find it in our plan comparison guide.

Why has Starter become a paid plan?
Over the past few years, we've introduced many new features and improvements to our Website Builder Starter plan. And we're still going. Because of this, Starter has been converted to an add-on that will be available for a small fee.
Here are some of the additions and improvements we've added to Starter recently:
-
- AI-powered Writing Assistant: Gone are the days when you had to sit and rewrite for ages to get the text on your website just right. With our Writing Assistant, you have a tool to help you quickly produce the text you need. All you need to do is enter a few snippets of information, and the tool will generate text suggestions that you can edit or use as they are.
- Improved Contact Form: Ensure you get the information you need when your visitors want to contact you. Our contact form now offers several customization options, so you can create the form you want. The Website Builder form also has a captcha, which makes it easy to protect your site against bot attacks and spam messages.
- Widgets for Google Maps and Bing Maps: With these widgets, you can display an address on a map directly on your site. Select your option, enter the address, and voíla!
- Color theme: Don't worry whether your site's colors work well together. The Color theme function can help ensure that your website's color design looks professional.
- Opening Hours component: You'll never have to spend time updating your shop's opening hours in several places on your site. Simply adjust your opening hours in your website settings, and the opening hours component will automatically update the hours on your website—wherever they are displayed.
- GDPR-compliant Cookie Banner: The Website Builder Cookie Banner contains all the information you need to inform your visitors about cookies and is straightforward to enable.
- New and more extensive database of high-quality stock images: Select images for your website directly inside the Website Builder editor. You can search among hundreds of images from a broad range of topics.
Additionally, the Starter plan now includes adding self-hosted videos and displaying your images in HD quality.
As a special bonus, Basic, Starter, and Premium customers can now add a small version of the Online shop to their website, enabling them to sell physical and digital products and gift cards online.

What is the new price for Starter?
All customers, before the changes, have been informed via email.
The full updated price scheme for our Website Builder plans is available on our website:
www.one.com/en/websitebuilder
Prices are displayed accurately in your relevant currency, with or without VAT, based on your customer profile. We encourage you to check them out. -
When were the changes implemented?
We introduced Website Builder Basic and started migrating customers to this plan before the end of 2023. Customers who remained on Starter received their first invoice for this new add-on with their next yearly renewal invoice.
-
I don't want to pay for Starter. What can I do to make my website fit the Basic plan?
If you want to downgrade to the Basic plan, you must convert your website into a one-page site. Basic is designed for one-page websites and only supports one-page and five-section links on a published site. We've created a guide with a suggested approach to this—you can find it here.
If you have questions about this, you're more than welcome to contact our support via email or chat.
-
How do I downgrade/upgrade my Website Builder plan?
You can always change your Website Builder plan by following our guide on upgrading and downgrading.
Note: If you want to downgrade, then make sure that your site fits the requirements of the plan before you do so.
-
I have Premium/Business + E-commerce plan. Was I affected by this change?
You were not affected to the same extent as Starter customers. However, Basic is now included in your hosting plan(s) as the free plan instead of Starter.
-
I have several Website Builder sites on Starter plans. Were they all being converted to the same new plan?
Not necessarily. It all depends on whether your Website Builder websites are published. If all websites are published and live, they were all moved to the new Starter plan. Those that weren't published were transferred to the Basic plan.
-
Who should I contact if I have questions?
If you have a question that isn't answered here or if you're unsure which Website Builder plan is right for you, please contact one.com's support. You can always reach one.com support via chat or email.
