What is Domain Protection?
Keeping your domain safe and easy to manage has never been more important.
Domain Protection is a simple add-on that helps you fully control your domain - even if something unexpected happens.
It combines the tools you already know (like Web forwards and Guest users) with extra layers of protection to help prevent mistakes, unauthorised changes, and downtime.
If you used DNS Admin before, this is the same product - just with a new name and extra features.

What is included in Domain Protection?
With the add-on Domain Protection, you are given the opportunity to:
- Create Web forward and Web alias
- Add Transfer Protection (Domain Lock)
- Option to create a guest user for the Control Panel
- Domain Recovery - If a payment is delayed, we automatically renew your domain for one more year so you have time to fix the issue without losing it.
- Privacy - We reduce what’s publicly visible about you in WHOIS/RDAP where the law and registries allow it.
- Domain Registration Confirmation (DRC) - A downloadable PDF that shows who is listed as the registrant of your domain at the time we issue it.
Who is eligible for Domain Protection?
- Available only for domains registered with one.com.
- The domain must be active (not expired or suspended).
- Can be added during a transfer to one.com, but features start working only after the transfer is complete.
- Available for most domain extensions (some exceptions apply).
Benefits of Domain Protection
-
Keeps your domain in your hands
Transfer Protection (Domain Lock) prevents anyone from transferring your domain without your approval. It’s like putting a lock on your domain name - you decide when to unlock it.
-
Confirms who’s listed as registrant
Need written confirmation of who your domain is registered to? The Domain Registration Confirmation (DRC) provides a one-page PDF snapshot of your registrant details on the date it’s issued.
The DRC is not legal proof of ownership - it’s a certified copy of the data currently held in the registry.
-
Gives you a safety net if payment is late
If you miss a payment, we automatically renew your domain for an extra year. This keeps your site online while you sort out payment issues.
This feature doesn’t guarantee recovery for all situations. It doesn’t apply to domains suspended for abuse, and we can’t always recover deleted or stolen domains.
-
Lets you collaborate securely
Invite developers, designers, or team members as Guest Users with their own logins and permissions - no password sharing needed.
-
Protects your personal details where possible
When allowed, we hide or reduce what’s shown publicly in WHOIS and RDAP databases.
Some registries still require certain information (for example, company names or contact emails) to be displayed.
We don’t offer “proxy registration” - your data remains accurate with the registry.
Why is Domain Protection included on my invoice?
Domain Protection might be included on your invoice if you bought an active subscription or if you used one of the features already included in Domain Protection before the add-on was implemented.
How do I add Domain Protection?
Domain Protection is added via your Control Panel. This is how you add it.
- At the bottom of the landing page, you click on DNS settings.
- Click on Upgrade now.
- Click on Select.
Extra Care
Extra Care is part of Domain Protection and provides additional support if you experience a domain issue.
If a problem occurs, we help you understand what happened and guide you through the available next steps, which may include:
- Checking whether the domain can be restored or re-registered
- Helping you understand the available recovery options
- Advising on alternatives if recovery is not possible
Extra Care does not guarantee recovery in all situations, but it ensures that you’re not handling the problem on your own.
Help with website and email backups
If a domain issue affects your website or email, we can also help restore backups where possible. This depends on your setup and available backup data, for example:
- You have an active hosting subscription with us
- Your website is hosted on our servers
In some cases, backups may not be available.
