What is two-step verification?
There are three generally recognized ways of verifying yourself:
- Something you know, such as a password.
- Something you have, a phone or key card.
- Something unique about you, such as your fingerprint, retina or face.
If you want to access an online account that uses single authentication, you need to verify yourself with one of these methods. Mostly, this is something you know, for example, a combination of an email address and a password.
Two-step verification requires using two authentication methods. At one.com, this means something you know (password) and something you have (your phone).
Why should I start using two-step verification?
Because it's more secure, it's like adding a second lock, requiring two keys to enter.
Even if you change your password regularly, there is still a chance you get hacked. When two-step verification is enabled, and someone does find out your password, they still wouldn't be able to access your account unless they also have access to your phone.
Which verification options does one.com offer?
You can choose between two apps for two-step verification - Google Authenticator and the one.com Companion app.
one.com Companion app
Our one.com Companion app is easy to use and perfect for everyone who wants a simple two-step verification solution. one.com Companion also helps you monitor your website statistics and comes with great additional features, such as tips on how to improve your website performance and security.
Google Authenticator
With Google Authenticator you can manage two-step verification for several services from one app. If you're already using Google Authenticator for other services, choosing the same app for your two-step verification for the one.com control panel can be a convenient and easy choice.
How does two-step verification work?
First, you log in with your email address and password, as normal.
As a second step, you need to verify yourself with the authentication app on your phone. Depending on which app you use, you either need to approve the login request by swiping right in the one.com Companion app on your phone, or you need to enter a 6-digit code that you generate with the Google Authenticator app.
You can only access your account when both verification methods are correct.
