How to manage attached domains

In this FAQ, you’ll learn how to manage attached domains in your hosting plan. We’ll explain how to attach a domain to an existing plan to benefit from hosting features, without paying for a separate hosting plan for each domain.

You’ll also find answers to common questions about supported plans, attaching domains, how to detach a domain if needed, and how to cancel a primary domain.

• What does it mean to attach a domain to a hosting plan?

  An attached domain shares the resources and features of your primary domain's hosting plan - so you don’t need to buy a new hosting plan for each domain.

  You only pay for the domain fee plus any premium or add-on products you activate for this domain. For the domains to be attached to the same plan, they must all be managed under the same contact email address.

  Example: Two domains attached to a Guru plan will benefit from the same performance and features included in that plan - such as Premium Mail, SSH access, and SiteLock. However, add-ons that are not included, like Website Builder Premium, need to be purchased separately for each domain.

• How many domains can I attach to my hosting plan?

  We offer two different multi-domain plans. This allows your domains to share the plan's features and benefits while maintaining separate domain billing. You can attach domains to the following hosting plans: 

  • Enthusiast: up to 5 domains
  • Guru: up to 10 domains

  This number includes the primary domain; e.g. on Enthusiast, you can attach up to four additional domains.

• How do I attach a domain that currently has no hosting plan?

  You can move any domain (attached or with its own plan) to another existing Enthusiast or Guru hosting plan to avoid paying for multiple hosting subscriptions. The domain fee will still be invoiced separately.

  1. Open your one.com Control Panel > My account > My products.
  2. Scroll down to Domain Only.
  3. Click Manage on the far right of the domain you want to attach.
  4. Click Attach to hosting plan in the menu that appears.
  5. On the next screen, select the hosting plan you want to attach to and click Continue.
  6. Done! Your domain now uses this hosting plan's features.

  

• How do I move my domain to another hosting plan?

  You can move any domain (attached or with its own plan) to another existing Enthusiast or Guru hosting plan to avoid paying for multiple hosting subscriptions. The domain fee will still be invoiced separately. You can also move attached domains from one hosting plan to another.

  1. Open your one.com Control Panel > My account > My products.
  2. Click Manage on the far right of the domain you want to move.
  3. Click Move to another plan in the menu that appears.
  4. In the window that appears, select the hosting plan you want to attach to and click Continue.
  5. Done! The domain is now attached to the selected plan, and it is visible in the overview.

  

• How do I downgrade an attached domain to Domain Only?

  If you're using a multi-domain plan (like Enthusiast or Guru), you can downgrade one of the attached domains (except the primary domain) to a Domain-only plan. Select this option if you no longer require the hosting and only wish to retain the domain name. If you're certain, follow the steps below:

  Warning: This action permanently deletes all hosting data (website files, emails, and databases). This cannot be undone.

  1. Open your one.com Control Panel > My account > My products.
  2. Click Manage on the far right of the attached domain you want to downgrade.
  3. Click Detach from this plan in the menu that appears.
  4. Click Detach and lose data in the new window that appears.
  5. Done! Your domain is now a Domain Only product with all hosting data permanently removed.

  

• How do I upgrade an attached domain to its own hosting plan?

  If you're using a multi-domain plan (like Enthusiast or Guru) and want one of your domains to be on a separate plan, you can upgrade the domain to its own hosting plan:

  1. Open your one.com Control Panel > My account > My products.
  2. Click Manage on the far right of the domain you want to give its own hosting plan.
  3. Click Move to another plan in the menu that appears.
  4. Select Buy new hosting plan in the new window that appears and click Continue.
  5. Select the new hosting plan and complete the upgrade.
  6. Done! The domain is now the primary domain of a new hosting plan.

  

• How do I change the primary domain?

  If you're using a multi-domain plan (like Enthusiast or Guru) and want to change which domain is the primary one, you must first have another primary domain to move to. The reason for doing this could be to change the owner or cancel the primary domain.

  To upgrade one of the attached domains to a primary domain with its own plan, and move the other domains to it, follow the steps below:

  Upgrading an attached domain to a primary domain:

  1. Open your one.com Control Panel > My account > My products.
  2. Click Manage on the far right of the domain you want to set as the new primary domain.
  3. Click Move to another plan in the menu that appears.
  4. Select Buy new hosting plan in the new window that appears and click Continue.
  5. Select the hosting plan this domain will move to and start using.
  6. Done! The domain is now the primary domain of its own hosting plan.

  

   

  Attaching the domains to the new primary domain:

  7. Open your one.com Control Panel > My account > My products.
  8. Click Manage on the far right of the domain you want to attach.
  9. Click Move to another plan in the menu that appears.
  10. In the window that appears, select the hosting plan you want to attach to and click Continue.
  11. Repeat steps 7-9 for all domains you want to move to another primary domain. The domain is now attached to the new primary domain and is visible in the overview.

  

• How do I cancel the primary domain?

  The primary domain is the main domain linked to your hosting plan. To cancel the domain, make sure no other domains are attached to it, then follow the steps in our guide: How do I cancel my web hosting subscription?

  You'll need to remove all attached domains from the hosting plan before the primary domain can be cancelled. Here's how:

  1. Open your one.com Control Panel > My account > My products.
  2. Click Manage on the far right of the domain you want to move.
  3. Click Move to another plan in the menu that appears.
  4. In the window that appears, select the hosting plan you want to attach to, or select Buy new hosting plan and click Continue.
  5. Repeat these steps for any attached domains until there are no attached domains left on the domain you would like to cancel.
  6. Done! You can now cancel your domain by following the steps in our guide:
